Passport is the main important document required when one has to travel abroad. Passports are issued by the national government for purpose of international travel. Passport is also an important document because it is a proof of one’s identity and once issued they are valid for 10 years.

Definition:

“Passport is an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder’s identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from foreign countries.”

Types of Passport:

There are mainly three different types of Passports namely Regular Passport, Official Passport and Diplomatic Passport. Regular passports in India are issued to ordinary people to travel on vacations and business trips. Covers of such passports are either dark blue or black and contain 36 pages to 60 pages. Official Passports are issued to individuals representing the Indian government on official business. Covers of such passports are white. Diplomatic passports are issued to Diplomats or top ranking government officials and / or diplomatic couriers. These passports are maroon in color.

Requirements for Passport:


When one has to apply for fresh application, there are certain documents to be submitted to the Passport officer along with a duly filled form and fees. One needs to submit Proof of address, proof of birth, passport size photos and citizenship document if he or she is a citizen of India by registration or Naturalization. While applying for a reissue of a passport after 10 years, one needs to apply again with the documents stated above along with the old passport.
