India grows variety of crops which meet the requirements of food viz. cereals, pulses, oil crops, sugar crops etc. There is a great demand, of fodder for the cattle which provide milk and motive power for agriculture, of cotton for manufacture of cloth and other raw materials for various industries for growing population. The principal crops are Rice, Wheat, Jowar, Bajra, Groundnut, Sugarcane, Cotton and Spices. In India 59.2 percent area is devoted to growing cereal crops and 12.6 percent to pulse crops, oil seeds occupy 13.7 percent and the fibre crops 4.7 percent and the remaining area is shared by sugarcane and other crops.
